Keys to the Match Houston

New York City FC welcomes the Houston Dynamo to the Big Apple on Thursday night.

Here’s Keys to the Match, presented by Tri-State Ford…

Our Turf

After a tough loss on the road, NYCFC is back at home aiming to get back to winning ways.

It’s no secret that the Boys in Blue perform better with the Bronx behind them. With the 12th man’s support, the team has maintained a 5-1-4 record thus far in Season 5.

On the other hand, our opponents haven’t had much luck on the road this season with a 2-8-0 record on the road and a -11 goal differential.

Houston’s struggle on the road is a factor that City will look to capitalize on in their search for a win to resume their ascent up the Eastern Conference table but it's never easy against Houston.

Hitting Reset

NYCFC has fallen only four times this season to their opponents, the second-fewest losses in the league, but they will look to hit reset to return to their winning ways.

Although City was bested by Real Salt Lake, they aren’t letting the defeat keep them from setting their sights on Houston.

As Dome Torrent said, “We have to recover quickly and we have to get ready for the next game. It's very important to get points in Yankee Stadium with our supporters…”

There’s no time to dwell on the past, especially now. NYCFC has played the fewest games in the league, which means the team will have the opportunity to earn crucial points as they look to make up the difference.

So onwards and upwards...

New York City FC and the Houston Dynamo have had four meetings in City’s short history. The teams are squared up with a win each and a pair of draws - with both draws coming at home.

As the Boys in Blue look to finally defeat Houston at home in the Bronx, they’ll need the Cityzens to elevate the atmosphere and show their support for New York City’s Football Club.

Familiar Faces

Thursday night’s match will bear familiar faces on both sides of the pitch. Sebastien Ibeagha, who grew up in the Houston Dynamo Academy, looks forward to playing against the team who brought him into the MLS.

NYCFC will also have a sense of nostalgia coming into the matchup, as Tommy McNamara makes his return to Yankee Stadium for the first time since joining the Dynamo in 2018.

There will be a lot of emotion in the air, but it will make for some entertaining soccer and some interesting subplots.
