New York City FC are back on the road this weekend, returning to the Sunshine State to face Orlando City SC. Kick-off is scheduled for 7:30pm at Inter.co Stadium.

Here are the Keys to the match, presented by Ford.

Recharge, Reset, Restart

The Boys in Blue will hit the road again after a brief but welcome respite, heading back to Florida for the second time in three matches.

A hectic October schedule has seen the Pigeons play three matches in seven days, travelling to Chicago and Miami before hosting LAFC in Queens. Now with a week between games, the squad have the opportunity to reset, recover, and recharge ahead of their final playoff push. Currently sitting two points outside the Wild Card spots with just four matches remaining, every game, every goal, every point is now critical.

An improved showing at Citi Field last time out saw Pascal Jansen’s men earn a valuable point against Western Conference outfit LA. Encouraged by his side’s display, the Head Coach has challenged the squad to sharpen their offensive threat, calling for greater composure in the final third as New York prepare to fight to the final whistle.

“I think it was a solid game from our side, especially given the fact where we are as a team,” Jansen reflected of the LAFC draw. “You saw a very dominant and controlling New York City FC in Citi Field, and that is impressive given the fact where we are as a team, playing against a team like LAFC.

“Every percent counts in this moment during the season. Our main goal is to get ourselves into the playoffs … Referring to mainly the moments in the second half, better choices have to be made in order to create an even bigger opportunity. I think it’s mainly because of rushed decisions in the final third that we didn’t get bigger and better chances … We need wins, and in order to win, you need goals.”

Orlando’s Bloom

The last meeting between New York and Orlando saw the Boys in Blue record their biggest win of the season so far.

A five-star display from Jansen’s men saw the Pigeons hit five goals in a memorable clean-sheet victory at Yankee Stadium, as the hosts continued their excellent start to the campaign.

The visitors meanwhile had suffered a tough opening to 2026, falling to defeat in each of their first three games - a run that would go on to see the Lions claim just four wins from their opening 15 league matches.

Much has changed for both sides since that March meeting however - a fact evident with the current absence of two of the names on the scoresheet: Maxi Moralez and Keaton Parks - both who have been sidelined for lengthy periods of the campaign since, and both of whom have been sorely missed.

Orlando also have a new man at the helm. In the aftermath of that 5-0 rout, the Club parted ways with Oscar Pareja and are now under the interim stewardship of Martín Perelman. The tide truly turned for the Floridians after the FIFA World Cup break. A fine run of form since the July restart has secured eight wins and three draws, propelling the Floridians from 13th to seventh spot in the East, with some now tipping Orlando to impress in the playoffs.

Purple Patch

There is certainly no secret to the Lions’ formidable turnaround - an upturn in fortunes has coincided with the recruitment of a World Cup winner and goalscoring machine in the form of star striker Antoine Griezmann.

Arriving from Atlético Madrid in the summer, the French forward hit the ground running with a goal on his debut and has never looked back, smashing an MLS record just three months later.

Even before his brace and assist against D.C. United in Saturday’s 4-1 win at Inter.co Stadium, the striker had already made league history, becoming the first player to have crafted at least one goal contribution in 11 of his first 13 MLS appearances.

His impact has been instrumental to the Floridians’ superb form. In total, he has notched 20 goal involvements across all competitions - and Orlando have never lost in a game in which he has found the net, winning nine and drawing once.

Bagging 14 goals in 23 MLS appearances, Martín Ojeda tops the Lions’ goalscoring charts and hit the headlines this week after stunning the soccer world with an outrageous scorpion-kick finish against D.C. - a Goal of the Season contender. New York will be wary of the hosts’ attacking prowess, but having kept LAFC’s dynamic duo Denis Bouanga and Son Heung-Min at bay last time out, the Pigeons defense will be ready for the task.
