New York City FC II announced today that it has signed Defender Gabriel Mendonça through June 2027, with a Club option for the 2027-28 MLS NEXT Pro season.
The Florida-born joins New York City FC II after most recently playing for Capivariano SAF in São Paulo, Brazil. While at the Club, the Brazilian competed in the Paulistão U20 and made three appearances in the Copa São Paulo de Futebol Júnior.
Mendonça began a youth career with CR Flamengo in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, in 2018, competing in the Campeonato Brasileiro Série A. During a five-year spell with Flamengo, Mendonça represented the Club at the 2022 Generation adidas Cup. In 2023, the Defender joined FC Dallas’ MLS NEXT Academy, representing the Club at the 2024 Generation adidas Cup before returning to Brazil to join Capivariano SAF in 2025.
