NYCFC Oscars 2017: Johnson’s Favorite Movie

Sean Johnson oscars

The 89th Academy Awards take place at the Dolby Theater in Los Angeles on Sunday, February 26.

To celebrate, we’ve asked a number of NYCFC stars for their favorite movies of all-time.

Yesterday, we discovered that Andrea Pirlo’s film of choice was The Hangover – today, we discover goalkeeper Sean Johnson’s.

Sean said…

“I’ll start with my favorite actor which is Denzel Washington and one of my all-time favorite movies is Man on Fire. It’s an incredible movie which, for me, establishes Denzel as one of the greatest.”

“Forgiveness is between them and God...My job is to arrange the meeting.”

Sean Johnson’s movie-of-choice was released in 2004 and is the story of a retired, burnt out assassin-turned-bodyguard John Creasy (Denzel Washington) tasked with protecting nine-year old Pita Ramos (Dakota Fanning).

Set against a backdrop of kidnapping and violence in Mexico, Creasy finds in Pita a reason to go on with life but his new-found happiness is disrupted when she's taken by a cartel.

That sets Washington’s character on a mission of revenge against her captors as he vows to eliminate anyone in his path.

This crime thriller is an adaptation of a A.J Quinnell novel bearing the same name and was directed by Tony Scott who also made Top Gun, True Romance and Crimson Tide.

Although it’s a movie with only a 39% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, it has drawn a cult following in recent years and has more than its fair share of defenders, Johnson including.

Join us tomorrow when we discover which film our resident movie guru Maxime Chanot went for…
