The 89th Academy Awards take place at the Dolby Theater in Los Angeles on Sunday, February 26.
To celebrate, we’ve asked a number of NYCFC stars for their favorite movies of all-time.
There are some surprising choices, not least from our first contributor – Andrea Pirlo…
From the Cinecitta movement in the 1930s to the Giallo era of the 60s and 70s, Italian cinema is respected alongside the most influential when it comes to progressive movie-making.
However, Andrea doesn’t choose a movie originating from his homeland – instead, he selects one from his adopted nation…
Pirlo’s favorite move is… Uno Notte Da Leoni.
Or, in English… The Hangover.
Andrea said…
“My favorite movie is Uno Notte Da Leoni because It’s very funny and I laugh in every moment…”

Yes, Andrea’s favorite movie is the comedy film The Hangover directed by Todd Phillips.
This one wasn’t nominated for any Academy Awards when it was released in 2009 but this tale of a bachelor party gone wrong has certainly entered mainstream pop culture.
Starring Bradley Cooper, Ed Helms and Zach Galifianakis, The Hangover is a tale of memory loss and friendship, featuring an unforgettable cameo from Mike Tyson, as well as a whole cavalcade of incidents we couldn’t possibly reference on a family-friendly website.
Although it wasn’t recognized at the Oscars, the movie did win a Golden Globe Award for Best Motion Picture in the Musical or Comedy category and went on to gross $467.5m at the global box office.
It is also the sixth-highest-grossing R-rated film of all-time, behind only The Passion of the Christ, The Matrix Reloaded, Ted, American Sniper and Deadpool.
There have been two sequels to The Hangover, released in 2011 and 2013.
Sadly, Andrea was unable for comment on whether they came close to surpassing the original…
Join us tomorrow when we’ll be discovering Sean Johnson’s Favorite Movie.
