The 89th Academy Awards take place at the Dolby Theater in Los Angeles on Sunday, February 26.
To celebrate, we’ve asked a number of NYCFC stars for their favorite movies of all-time.
John Stertzer is next up, following in the footsteps of Andrea Pirlo (The Hangover), Sean Johnson (Man on Fire),Maxime Chanot (Cinderella Man) and Andre Rawls (Iron Man).
John said…
“I’m a huge Batman fan, so for me it’s got to be The Dark Knight. Heath Ledger was an awesome Joker and I’ve watched that movie countless times. I’ll also give Wedding Crashers a mention too as that is another favorite of mine.”
Why So Serious?
Christopher Nolan is one of the most influential directors currently working in Hollywood and his Dark Knight trilogy is perhaps the greatest example of comic book movie-making ever committed to the silver screen.
The Dark Knight is the second in the trilogy and sees Christian Bale’s Batman pitted against Heath Ledger who gives an unforgettable portrayal of The Joker.
Less a traditional comic book movie in tone than a crime thriller, this DC Comics property was released in 2008 and took more than $1bn at the box office – more than any other movie released that year.
Ledger claimed Best Supporting Actor and Richard King also won the Best Sound Editing gong in two of eight categories the movie was nominated for in 2008’s Academy Awards.
Legendary movie critic Roger Ebert described The Dark Knight as a "haunted film that leaps beyond its origins and becomes an engrossing tragedy," and awarded it four out of four stars.
It also has an approval rating of 94% on review-aggregator Rotten Tomatoes.
All in all, a great choice from The Stertz.
