All of the key soundbites from those in the home locker room after NYCFC’s 1-1 draw with Montreal on Saturday afternoon.
Patrick Vieira on frustration…
“We’re really frustrated because I think we should have won this game and taken the three points because of the way we played and the number of chances we created.
“But that is the game of football. If you don’t take your chances then you leave the door open for the opposition.”
Patrick Vieira on Rodney Wallace…
“He loves the game, he’s working hard in training, in the game. He’s got a really good attitude in the dressing room, all the players love him.
“I like his character and he did really well in the league. He won the title so he knows how to do it. He’s got good experience as well. But what I really love about him is the way he’s competing when he’s on the field. He can score goals and he can do a lot of things.”
Patrick Vieira on Ethan White…
“When you look at the game Ethan played today, I think he was quite really solid,” Vieira said. “Piatti didn’t create much. He had only one chance where we hit the post because we lost the ball in the midfield. I was pleased with the defensive side of Ethan. I’m quite lucky because I have two really good right backs.”
Rodney Wallace on solidity…
“Overall, I think we played a good game – it was disappointing not to get the full three points which I thought we deserved. I thought we were very solid in defense and at the end of the day we didn’t lose the game and that’s a positive to take away. We have a very strong team and we’re getting used to each other every week.”
Ethan White on competition for places…
“I think we did well defensively other than for the [last] play of the half where Piatti hit the post and obviously the goal. I think those were the only chances we gave away.”
“It’s always good to be rewarded for good play, but it’s not over. There’s good competitors in my spot and I’m just going to put in the work and make it hard for the coaches.”
Alex Ring on missed chances…
“We had chances in the second half too. To score 2-0, I don’t think you can blame it on the early chances, the later chances.
“The most important thing is we have been creating the chances in every game. It’s just about being effective and aggressive in front of goal to kill the games earlier.”
Maxime Chanot taking the positives…
“We scored one goal today, four goals last week, we should have scored goals two weeks ago against Orlando. I think the feedback is not so bad. OK, at the end we’ve got only four points. But I don’t think it’s so bad. Let’s see what’s going to happen next week.”
Jonathan Lewis on his NYCFC debut…
“At the end of the day, I’m learning. I’m still young and I can learn a lot from players at my position like someone Jack, who’s young like me or someone like Rodney, who’s very experienced and David. Just learning from them coming off the bench and playing the ten minutes, I’m still learning and getting that experience. It’s going to help me grow as a player.”
