New York City Football Club Head Coach Ronny Deila has praised his side’s consistency following their 2-0 victory against Columbus Crew on Saturday.
The Boys in Blue welcomed a strong Columbus side to Yankee Stadium in hopes of extending their winning run in all competitions to six games. They achieved that aim via a 2-0 win, with goals from Talles Magno and Taty Castellanos pushing them past Caleb Porter's side. Speaking afterward, Deila hailed his side’s togetherness as well as their consistency during this impressive run of results.
“I think we have been consistent,” he said. “We have gone six games without losing. We have talked about putting together a streak with good results and making it so our lowest level is so high that we get something from every game and I think we do that now. I think we attack better now than we have done with more width in the game, more real wingers, I feel there’s a lot of development in this team. We are starting to see relationships within this group get better. I’m very pleased that we take away a lot of points from home. That’s important if you’re going to come as high as possible in the league – hopefully winning – and get to the playoffs.”
While Deila praised the youth and potential of his squad, he also took time to celebrate it’s the oldest member in Maxi Moralez. The playmaker produced a vintage performance that was crowned with an assist for Taty Castellanos early in the second half.
“He is the smartest football player on that pitch,” Deila said. “He can play every position except goalkeeper. I think he’s a bit too small for that. He organizes the team, he can run, and on the ball he is really good. That was the positive of playing him in that [deeper] role. When he plays 10 he comes down to get the ball so he is already in that position. The biggest thing is if he can do the defensive work and he is smart in his positioning and I think he did really well.”
