Trending: Frank’s Farewell & Pirlo Flashback

Welcome back to Trending, our weekly look back at the funny and the strange from the world of soccer in the last seven days.

Following a little break for preseason, let’s dive in to find out what’s been making waves online…

Frank’s Stamford Bridge Address

Emotional scenes in London where Super Frank went back to his old stomping ground to give a speech at half-time in Chelsea’s win over Swansea last weekend.

The former NYCFC hero felt as though he never got the chance to say goodbye properly to the fans who adore him at the club where he broke the long-standing goalscoring record but there was hardly a dry eye in the house on Saturday.

Spine-tingling stuff!

Picture Perfect

… staying at Stamford Bridge and Frank… this has got to be the best photo taken in the last week.

Pirlo Flashback

From genius to genius…

Journey back to the early days of Andrea Pirlo’s career for this stunning pass to Roberto Baggio when the pair played for Brescia.

This video has been doing the rounds again after Baggio turned 50 last week and it’s well worth a revisit…

A Real Life Superhero

Not all heroes wear capes… some wear soccer kits.

Hats off to Toga international striker Francis Kone who saved the life of Bohemians goalkeeper Martin Berkovec last weekend in the Czech First League.

Berkovec was in danger of swallowing his own tongue when he collided with a teammate but Kone was quick on the scene to prevent him from choking.

PSV goalkeeper Jeroen Zoet was left cursing the Goal Decision System last weekend after his bizarre own goal against Feyenoord.

It was a costly error that effectively ended PSV’s Eredivisie title hopes as he carried the ball over the line immediately after making a save from a Jan-Arie van der Heijden header.

Parking the Bus

Speaking of own goals, spare a thought (or don’t) for the Crystal Palace fans who accidently vandalized their own team bus, mistakenly believing it was Middlesbrough’s.

A Miraculous Goal

Here’s a goal scored at the right end… and in some style too!

Check out this stunning strike scored by Nigeria’s Mountain of Fire and Miracles FC.

Great team name, great goal.
