Trending: Transfer Announcements Special

Summer, summer, summertime…

The MLS summer transfer window doesn’t open until July 10 but with the European equivalent in full swing, player signings are being made across the continent as teams bolster their ranks ahead of 2017/18.

To celebrate, this week’s Trending takes a deep dive into some of the most innovative (and bizarre) methods being used by clubs to excite supporters around their new arrivals.

FIFA and Sign

AS Roma have perhaps got claim on the best social media unveiling of the European offseason so far with this beauty for Lorenzo Pellegrini…

Arsenal’s puntastic hashtag used to announce French striker Alexander Lacazette made some waves this week.

Also, please note player-wearing-same-jersey-said-player-is-holding-up – always a favorite new signing trope of ours here at NYCFC HQ.

Toffee Tactics

Everton have been killing it this summer, both in the market itself and in their execution of their announcements. This one for Michael Keane was pretty cool…

Everton’s Merseyside neighbors got in on the action themselves when they revealed Egyptian winger, Mo Salah, lampooning the “Announce X” Football Twitter (FT) fam in the process.

Announce Ederson

Our friends over in Manchester recognized that City supporters had been waiting for the announcement of Brazilian goalkeeper Ederson for some time.

They responded in the best way…

Oh, Snap!

This was very clever from Yeovil Town as they utilized a new Snapchat feature to go out and find their newest recruit at their stadium, Huish Park.

Papal Vibes

This one from Crystal Palace to signify the arrival of Frank De Boer as Manager can probably be filed in the idiosyncratic category.

New Eagles boss or Pope Frank the First? ¯\(ツ)

The Villains

Finally, one from this week… you’ve probably seen it by now, but just in case… here’s Aston Villa announcing John Terry via a WhatsApp group chat definitely happened. “Wild”.

Over to you, MLS teams! July 10 is just days away…
