Here are your nominees for the Etihad Player of the Month for August 2022.

Gabriel Pereira

Nick Cushing said it best when he remarked that Pereira only seems to score goals you want to watch 100 times over.

His blistering strike against Chicago Fire helped NYCFC to a 2-0 win that day, and reflected the blend of speed, tricks, and dynamism the Brazilian has sprinkled on the team. Able to turn on a dime, his ability with the ball and willingness to defend without it have helped his teammates considerably as he continues to develop his game with NYCFC.

Tayvon Gray

The academy product has forged a strong reputation in the first team as a challenge to Anton Tinnerholm at right back. His marauding runs and impressive 1v1 defence have made him a tough opponent for wingers across the league, but in August Gray emerged as a useful option in the heart of the defence.

A center back by trade with the academy, injuries required Gray to step in alongside Maxime Chanot, where he displayed tremendous composure on the ball alongside good recovery speed and strength. Showing versatility and character to step in when asked, the Boys in Blue are blessed to have someone like Gray in their ranks.

Malte Amundsen

The Danish defender has been an ever-present for NYCFC this season, with his rampaging runs down the left a consistent source of danger in attack.

His ability to play a number of games in a short space of time has also been a major benefit to NYCFC as they seek to maintain consistency amid a busy campaign. Never one to shy away from his defensive duties, the 24-year-old continues to develop his game while playing in Bronx Blue, and will hope he can finish the season strongly at both ends of the field.
